2009 was a defining year for Australian film with box office success at an all time high. Bold, imaginative and compelling, our films touched audiences at home and abroad. With works from emerging, contemporary and renowned filmmakers including Warwick Thornton, Rachel Ward, Sarah Watt and Robert Connolly, the scope of vision is unfailingly unique.

This year's AICE Australian Film Festival provides a cinematic window into the Australian psyche. Our opening night film - Robert Connolly's Balibo - is a spellbinding political thriller that tells the true story of the deaths of five Australian-based journalists in East Timor; a crime that has been covered up for over thirty years. It is one of the most important films to come out of Australia in recent history and AICE is privileged to welcome Robert Connolly to Israel as guest of the festival.
