AICE
Australian Film Festival
2012

Stories to fascinate, stories to mystify. Tales to make you laugh, tales to maybe make you cry or possibly angry. Beguiling, engaging, enthralling: imaginative, stylish, powerful.

Ten feature and documentary films alongside complementary short films make up the ninth AICE Australian Film Festival, a festival that continues to provide Israeli audiences with an insight into Australian life and culture.

The stories are eclectic, the films diverse. From our opening night feature, Wish You Were Here, to the closing film, we travel the length and breadth of Australia.

Melbourne has never looked better on celluloid than in the romantic comedy Any Questions for Ben? The red dust of the outback plays a major part in the thriller Swerve. Stylish Perth is the setting for Wasted on the Young whilst the paradise of Palm Island off the Queensland coast sees terrible injustice in the riveting documentary The Tall Man.

Be prepared to be challenged by the Australian narratives and its no holes barred approach in such award-winning films as Snowtown and Toomelah. Expect the unexpected in the adult dramas Careless Love and Face to Face.

And in unusual synchronicity, the deeply moving documentary Life in Movement features the first Australian dance company to perform at Tel Aviv’s own Suzanne Dellal Centre.

But before all that, Wish You Were Here launches the AICE Australian Film Festival 2012. Chosen to open the Sundance Festival earlier this year, the beguiling mystery thriller switches back and forth between Sydney and Cambodia after four friends go on a short Asian holiday but only three come back.

It is the perfect opening film for a festival that will entertain and enthrall Israeli audiences.

We look forward to seeing you at the many screenings.
